How to Start a Homemade Products Business in the UAE

When thinking of the UAE as a business hub, the first images that usually come to mind are that of big companies, established entrepreneurs, or innovative startups in emerging industries. But the truth is, the landscape is much bigger than that. Nearly anyone can start their own venture in the UAE, as long as they have a strong business idea and the skills to make it succeed.

One such concept is homemade products. Handy or artistic individuals may want to form a business out of their creations, and the UAE is just the place for it. If you want to start selling your handmade soaps, candles, food products, or other items, read on.

What are the steps to start my homemade products business?

Step 1: Determine your business activity & other details

Think about what exactly you are looking to sell. Once you have a clear and unique idea, decide on a company name that fits the nature of your business. Because the homemade and online product space is quite saturated, you’ll need a name that’s catchy and accurately describes your products. Of course, it should also follow the UAE’s standard naming rules.

Depending on your business activity, you may need additional requirements too. For example, a food business may require you to rent a small commercial kitchen. Our Creative Zone team will be glad to help you determine and obtain these specific needs.

Step 2: Send in your e-commerce license application

In the case of a homemade products business, the best option will be to apply for an online or e-commerce business license. This will allow you to easily sell your products online, making it accessible to a wide market across the UAE.

To do so, you will need the following documents:

  • A copy of your passport
  • A No Objection Certificate, if you are working in a UAE company
  • A copy of your Emirates ID
  • The license application form of your home jurisdiction
  • A tenancy contract
  • An attested Memorandum of Association

It’s important to note that other documentation may also be needed, depending on your business. As for costs, this also differs based on your location but as a guide, prices start at AED 5,750 for Sharjah and AED 12,500 for Dubai

Step 3: Open a corporate bank account

Businesses based in the UAE will always need a corporate bank account for all transactions. Luckily, there are many local and international banks to choose from, and we will work with you to find the best one that suits your needs – alongside preparing documents for account application.

Step 4: Build your brand and online store

Now that you can formally operate your homemade products business, it’s time to build your brand and store. Create a website or social media storefront that effectively displays your products. It should be user-friendly, aligned with your brand, and accessible on desktop or mobile devices. Your online store must also have a payment gateway for buyers to easily make purchases, as well as customer service for any questions and concerns.
