An overview of the UAE security industry

The security industry in the Middle East has been thriving in recent years. Governments across the region have taken great strides in an effort to better protect their people, businesses and assets.

So much so that research analysts at Frost & Sullivan predict that the wider commercial security market in the Middle East is worth around USD 10bn. Within this are many products, services and subsectors from CCTV surveillance to alarms and ID systems.

On top of this, a region that sees countless expos, events and high profile functions has a growing need for security guards whether to protect individual VIPs or key sites and premises.

All of this combines to make now a great time to launch a security business within the UAE. And with the right support, it takes just a few simple steps.

Steps to start a security company in the UAE

The first thing to do if you’re considering starting a security company in the UAE is to talk with local experts such as Creative Zone. After a short consultation to understand the needs of your business, we can guide you through the following four-step process.

Step 1: Registering your company name
First things first, we will help you choose and register a name for your new company. When choosing a business name in the UAE, you will need to adhere to several conventions.

You will need to avoid any words that could be considered offensive or blasphemous. You should also make sure that your chosen name is not similar to any other existing businesses or institutions.

Your name must also be available to register – for this reason, it’s a good idea to put forward a few options in case your preferred choice is already taken. Once you have made your decision, we will submit your trade name registration on your behalf.

Step 2: Acquiring a business licence
With your name chosen and registered, you can now apply for your UAE trade licence. The process here will differ depending on whether you are setting up in the mainland or in a free zone.

Mainland licences are issued by the Department of Economic Development or equivalent municipality. Free zone licences are issued by free zone authorities. In either case, your dedicated contact at Creative Zone will manage the process on your behalf, to ensure a speedy and straightforward application.

Step 3: Completing the visa processes
Anyone wishing to live or work in the UAE requires a residency visa. While a little more comprehensive than the licence application process, with the right support, it is both fast and straightforward.

As part of this process, you will be required to undergo a medial and fitness test, a chest X-ray and blood test.

As the holder of a UAE visa, you can sponsor the visas of your dependants, such as children, spouse, parents and domestic staff, too.

Step 4: Opening a bank account
Finally, you will need a UAE corporate bank account so you can start making and receiving payments. While not always a quick and easy process for non-GCC citizens, the team at Creative Zone can help lighten the load.

After getting to know your requirements, we’ll put you in touch with the banks that are most likely to offer the services you require.

How to get a security licence from SIRA

All private security guards must undergo SIRA training in order to acquire a security license. To do this you must first register online via the SIRA website. Next, you should attend the SIRA Cadre Training Centre to submit the required documents.

Once registered, you must complete the SIRA training course, designed to give you an overview of security best practices and help you reduce risk, safeguard your clients and their belongings and comply with all relevant regulation.

H2: Documents required for SIRA training

Before embarking on the SIRA training course, you will need to submit the following documents:

    • Application form
    • Colour passport photos
    • Copy of your passport
    • Copy of Emirates ID
    • Copy of residency visa
    • Medical fitness certificate

SIRA training fees in Dubai

There are several options available when undergoing SIRA training from manager and supervisor courses to first aid and security awareness training. Fees differ depending on the course you require, ranging from AED 210 to AED 5,000.

Cost of starting a business in Dubai

The cost of starting a security business in Dubai starts at AED 13,800. However, there are many additional fees on top of this.

As well as your licence fee, you will need to account for visa costs, staff costs, and any additional permits required to trade. For a full and personalised breakdown of the costs involved, get in touch with the team at Creative Zone.
